The Outdoor Activation Project has been complete and saw the following initiatives undertaken:

  • Additional waste management with new bins and extra bin pickups for Summer season
  • Purchase and installation of permanent seating along median strip, botanic park and Goughs Bay
  • Melbourne Cup Weekend outdoor activation with additional seating, umbrellas and outdoor spaces
  • Purchase of events equipment including festoon lighting and market umbrellas
  • Building of a permanent ‘music box’ to cover the audio and power system in the main street which enables quick and secure activation of music in the median strip and events
  • Construction of the Amphitheatre space which has been heavily utilised since completion
  • Extension of red line permits and waiver of fees
  • Masterplan for Botanic Park
  • Installation of shade sails in the botanic park over and around the playground area
  • Art projects – 2 murals from artist Dvate, Interactive footpath works from Tim Bowtell, Torso sculpture purchase and installation
  • Event communication and marketing plan through November
  • Goughs bay BBQ area shade cloth and installation
  • Water station installation on the Great Victorian Rail Trail
  • Installation of additional water tap at eastern end of Botanic Park for events in that area
  • Boat club shade sails and tables and chairs
  • Purchase of trailer that holds all events equipment

We've received $300,000 to drive economic and social activity from the Victorian Government as part of their Outdoor Economy Package.

Last year, the Victorian Government awarded funds for outdoor dining activation which was spent on bolstering hospitality businesses. This round of funding serves a broader business base. In addition to hospitality, this funding is designed to help gyms, creative businesses, personal/beauty services and non-essential retail by allowing Council to facilitate the activation of outdoor spaces.

Phase 1 approved plan and progress:

  • Additional bins and waste pick ups
    • extra waste pickups organised over the summer holiday period for Jamieson, Goughs Bay and Bonnie Doon. - COMPLETE
    • New bins to be installed in Jamieson, Goughs Bay, Mansfield and Bonie Doon. - COMPLETE
  • Permanent seating - COMPLETE
  • Event support such as road closures, PA system, lighting, tables and chairs, umbrellas, cleaners and security
  • A secured permanent music system in the median strip allowing community groups to have music performances or run music over the speakers without having to engage a sound technician saving considerable costs. - COMPLETE
  • Interactive art -
    • Taungurung art included on bins by Maddi - Chlo & Co Creatives. COMPLETE
    • Taungurung art on infrastructure by local artist Talitha annuscheit. JULY 2022
    • A 3D river by artist Tim Bowtell in the arcade East of town. COMPLETE
    • Art next to IGA - COMPLETE
    • sculpture art in media strip from Timo Juntunen - COMPLETE
  • natural amphitheater in median strip - LAUNCHED mid June
  • communications campaign
    • Council is working on a PR campaign scheduled around events, and the installation of new infrastructure while highlighting recreational facilities and specific businesses. In market WINTER AND SPRING

    • six umbrellas will be installed in total, focusing on the far east and far west side of the median strip - COMPLETE
  • contribution to red line permit fees COMPLETE

  • Signage across Mansfield Shire - JULY 2022
