What is the DAMP review?

Background

Under the Domestic Animals Act 1994, all councils are required to review their DAMP every four years. This process is essential to ensure our services and strategies continue to meet the needs of our community, promote responsible pet ownership and ensure the welfare of animals.

Community feedback is a vital part of this review. Your experiences and ideas will help us create a new plan that reflects current community values and addresses the issues that matter most to you.

What does the plan cover?

The DAMP outlines Council's approach to a wide range of animal management topics. We are seeking your feedback on key areas such as:

  • Promoting responsible pet ownership and education.

  • Pet registration and identification.

  • Managing nuisance issues like barking dogs and wandering cats.

  • Dog attack prevention and managing dangerous animals.

  • Off-leash and on-leash public areas.

How to Have Your Say

We are seeking your feedback on the current plan and your priorities for the future. This information will be used to help us prepare the new Draft DAMP for 2026-2029.

Please share your experiences by completing our online survey or provide suggestions through the ideas tab.

Feedback for this initial consultation closes on 3 November 2025.
