Mansfield Shire Council is working in partnership with the Goughs Bay Progress Association to apply for funding through AusNet’s Energy Resilience Community Fund for the Goughs Bay Community Energy Resilience Project.

The project includes the installation of a solar and battery system at the Goughs Bay Boat Club and Community Hub, along with a generator-operated mobile shower trailer. This backup energy system will help keep power on during outages, while the mobile shower trailer will provide access to clean, safe shower and change facilities when they’re needed most.

As locals know, Goughs Bay regularly experiences prolonged power outages, which can leave residents feeling vulnerable and isolated. During the recent Longwood fires, the Goughs Bay Boat Club and Community Hub was on standby as a rest and respite centre for emergency personnel. Thankfully, power remained connected at the time, but if an outage had occurred, the hub would have gone offline just when people needed it

With the increasing risk of extreme weather events, it’s more important now than ever to have an energy-resilient hub for the Goughs Bay and broader community. We are asking community members to show their support and provide their feedback on the proposed project to help strengthen the funding application.
