Proposed Footbridge and Shared Path
Overview
Greenvale Lane is an important 80km/h road that forms part of the Mansfield Heavy Vehicle Alternative Route, connecting Mt Buller Road and Mansfield-Whitfield Road. The road provides access to key community facilities including the Mansfield Agricultural Showgrounds and future childcare centre planned for the area.
Currently, the narrow vehicle bridge over Ford Creek has no provision for pedestrians or cyclists. This forces people to use the road bridge to cross the creek, creating a safety risk on a high-speed road.
While there are existing shared paths to the north and south of the bridge, there is a critical missing link. The proposed new path and bridge aim to close that gap, creating a safe and continuous route for the pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders.
Council is proposing:
- A new shared path in two sections totalling 375 metres to connect existing paths on either side of Ford Creek.
- A new 25 metre long footbridge to provide a safe crossing over Ford Creek, separate from vehicle traffic. This bridge would be located alongside the existing road bridge.
Council is seeking community feedback on plans for this missing link in our shared path network.
