Have Your Say - Revised Proposal

After proposing to close the High Street Service Road at the Ultimo/Station St end, Council received a wide range of views from the community, both for and against the proposal. After carefully reviewing feedback, traffic data, and future growth in the area, Council has revised the proposal to close the service road at the Apollo Street end to better manage how the network will function over time.

Current traffic patterns show that most vehicles are using the High Street service road as a through-route to access Ultimo/Station St, rather than using the main road network as intended. With planned future developments in the precinct, this behaviour is expected to increase, placing additional pressure on the service road and impacting the amenity, safety, and liveability for nearby residents.

The revised proposal is designed to direct through-traffic back onto High Street, where it is better accommodated, while still maintaining access to local destinations via appropriate intersections. It also helps reduce confusion at the service road entry and provides a clearer, safer road layout for all users.

Importantly, the change is not expected to increase pedestrian risk or require unsafe manoeuvres, and essential services will still be able to access the area safely. Council is also exploring opportunities to improve parking and access in the broader area, which will be consulted on separately.
