Mansfield Shire Council is working to renew the play space at the Mansfield Botanic Park.

Due to recently identified safety risks, all treated pine play equipment has been removed and community engagement has commenced to inform the development of a new regionally significant playground including a nature play area.

Over the coming months Council will develop fully scoped designs for the space with the intention of commencing construction and implementing a new playground by December 2021.

Engagement Update

  • The final detailed design has been finalised and was endorsed by Council on 19 May 2020. Read the Council Report.
  • The project has been awarded $250,000 in funding from the Victorian Government, bringing the total project to $500,000.

We heard you:

  • A community survey was conducted with submissions open to consider the community's feedback and work with the consultant to finalise the design.
  • A pop-up display and listening post was held at Mansfield Producer's Twilight Market at the Botanic Park on Friday 6 March from 5pm.
  • A public drop-in community engagement session with Council staff and the consultant was held at the Mansfield Library on Thursday 12 March between 12pm and 2pm.

Community feedback on the Concept Design included:

  • The upgrade is much needed
  • The community supports the look/feel of the design and references to natural environment.
  • There was a desire to further improve accessibility of the design through additional pathways such as a pathway to the “mountain top”
  • There was a desire to further improve equipment choices that cater to more advanced ages and abilities.
  • There was a desire for further increase play equipment in general.
  • Shade and associated facilities for example, seating and line of site from BBQs needs to be further considered.
  • Fencing / dog-off-leash areas needs to be further considered
