Council is seeking to improve the amenity and township character public locations in Bonnie Doon. Several options for streetscape upgrades were developed and presented for community feedback in February and March 2023.

These options are based on ideas and priorities developed by community members involved in the Bonnie Doon Recreation Reserve's Community Reference Group, and based on community feedback received as part of our Bonnie Doon Plan engagement.

Feedback received via the survey on this page will help us deliver upgrades in line with the community's needs and preferences and prioritise the most important upgrades. We will seek to include lower priority upgrades in future budgets.

The survey is now closed, and the results and outcomes are available at the bottom of this page.

Bon Crescent area

Mural walls

This option involves painting the walls of the current toilet block with mural artwork, such as a high country or lake scene.

Lighting and sculptures

New sculpture and decorative lighting installations at each end of Bon Crescent. At the south end these would be located at the existing garden bed. At the north end they would be located on a section of lawn.

Lawn irrigation system

The Bon Crescent lawn currently has no irrigation system. This option is for an underground system to be installed similar to Mansfield's High Street median lawns, helping to keep the grass green and vibrant.

Signage at well

Signage would acknowledge the significance of the well and its history, as well as providing visitors with a background to the township. It would also be used to discourage rubbish dumping in the well.

Community Centre area

Kids Bike track

This option is for a short, flat track that small children can use when learning to ride a bicycle.

Shade sail

A UV protective sail to provide shade to the existing playground.

Fitness station

The station would likely include one to three items of fixed equipment, such as an exercise bike, pull-up or sit-up station or combo press and pull.

Barbecue and picnic shelter

Separate to the streetscape upgrades, Council is already planning upgrades to the existing barbecue and picnic shelter in this area. Although they're not listed as an option in this engagement and survey, the upgrades are planned to take place together with the installation of other new features listed here.

The online survey hosted from 22 February to 8 March 2023 received 14 responses.

All options received generally positive responses, and some were clearly viewed more positively and as being more important than others.

Based on the results, Council plans to deliver the upgrades in the following priority order:

    1. Lawn irrigation system
    2. Shade sail
    3. Signage at well
    4. Mural walls
    5. Lighting and sculptures
    6. Fitness station
    7. Kids bike track

Lawn irrigation works near the Bonnie Doon War Memorial are planned to take place in the coming months. Other popular options identified during the consultation will be considered in future capital works planning.

Many additional suggestions and requests were made by respondents. These include:

    • Parking at community centre
    • Speed humps on Arnot Street
    • Play equipment at Bon Crescent
    • Cleaning of or mural decorations on the Great Victorian Rail Trail bridge
    • Community facilities including for local events, providing an opportunity for locals to connect
    • Community garden or regenerated bushland area
    • Actions to address inappropriate behaviour in relation to rubbish and fire
    • Information on local environment and history
    • Mural decorations on the CFA building
    • Public seating at Dawn Crescent

Council will further investigate the feasibility and benefits of additional suggestions and requests made by respondents regarding Bonnie Doon’s streetscape upgrades.
