The historic Jamieson Police Stables were built back in 1862 and originally included sleeping quarters for at least four full‑time police officers and their horses. The site operated as a mounted police station for almost a hundred years. Over time, the building has undergone a few changes and some minor structural repairs, including a partial roof replacement after one of the Giant Sequoias fell on it. Unfortunately, the stables are now in such disrepair that it’s no longer safe for community members or visitors to enjoy up close.

In 2023, Council acquired the stables on the condition that the space would continue to serve the community.

Since then, we’ve been working closely with the Jamieson Community Group and the Jamieson Historical Society to design a functional, community‑focused space. The Jamieson Police Stables Restoration Project is the first stage of the broader Jamieson Community Hub Development Project.

Our staff have put a lot of care into making sure the restoration keeps the building’s original character, everything from matching the exterior paint colours to sourcing handmade bricks for the flooring and finding repurposed timber for the internal support walls.

This project not only protects an important piece of Jamieson’s history but also helps create a destination that brings visitors in, supports local businesses, and builds community pride.

Council is currently preparing a funding application for the proposed restoration and is seeking community support to accompany the submission.
