We welcome the proposal for a new playground at Goughs Bay but please, please consider adding some shading in the form of a shade cloth or similar, so that the area can be used during summer. As it stand the playground would be essentially un-usable in warmer months.
Great this project is happening, more playgrounds are needed in the area. As it is aimed at young children fully fenced may be a bette option so kids can’t run away towards the lake, also a picnic table with shade/shelter.
It is aim at quite young children an option for older siblings 8+ might be good to add.
The plan for the goughs bay playgroud appears to be targeting a very young age
Some older age equipment would be ideal.
Such as - mini trampolines - like at botanical
Flying fox (something unique for the area).
A larger slide.
Climbing wall or net.
swings that fit older children.
There are many older kids in the area - over summer particularly, that this plan does not cater for.
In general the 'young child' population in goughs bay is low.
I feel that this design is aimed at a too young audience.
I also see concerns with the area not being fully fenced as it is located on a busy corner (in summer) close to the boat ramp.
There is also no shade provision in the play or natural (trees) included or nearby.
Unless your going to build a toilet block wouldn’t it need to go near the one and only toilet located at picnic point. Now as there appears to be no shade over the equipment get ready for the outrage from parents about it being unusable in summer.
What will happen to the current one at picnic point?
