Consultation has concluded
Following the development of concept plans for a new shared path between the Goughs Bay township and Mountain Bay Drive, community members are invited to provide feedback on the proposal.
The new shared path is proposed to provide a safer route for pedestrians and cyclists along this well-used section of the Piries-Goughs Bay road, connecting the Goughs Bay township with local destinations including the Maze and the Mountain Bay community.
The proposal is for a new 2.5m wide compacted gravel shared path. It will start in the Goughs Bay township opposite the General Store and extend to the High Country Gardens Gallery & Maze. The design includes a crossing point to enable the path to continue along the southeastern side of Piries-Goughs Bay Road and extend up to the intersection of Mountain Bay Drive. Concept design drawings are available on Council’s Engage website, with a bold blue line showing the proposed new path location. Council is planning to commence construction this financial year and continue into next financial year, with the path to be constructed in stages as funding allows.
This proposed concept plan is available for comment until 13 March 2024.

If you require a physical copy of the documents, please contact Council by phone on 03 5775 8555 to arrange a print copy for collection.

Great inititive and expect will get plenty of use as many currently walk part of the proposed route to Bracks Bridge. Will need to be some safety features for pedstrians crossing Walshes Rd as whilst threoretically traffic coming from Piries dierection and turing into Walshes Rd should be doing only 50kph, the traffic coming down Walshes Rd from the Pines can be doing 80kph. Maybe 50kph signs back just past CFA station so the complete intersection is 50kph?

I own the Maze, and fully support this project. We get many cyclists coming along the road to visit us, plus Mtn Bay residents who regularly walk to us, and the road is very busy and narrow. Regarding the xing at CFUN308 - 309, there are 2 very large dead trees on our nature strip that are unstable and dropping limbs regularly at the designated xing point. They are a public safety issue and need to be lopped back. I dont think they need to be fully removed, but they need to be investigated as I am always fearful when I mow near them. Please check them out and attend to them before confirming this section of the path. Thanks

Concerns me greatly with the speed that people come up from Goughs Bay when they get to that intersection. So many people hit kangaroos on this section of road as well. We live there and don’t walk on Goughs Bay Rd due to it being so dangerous. Much safer to walk around the lake or down to Brack’s Bridge. Has any risk management strategies being discussed in this plan? The fire brigade also come out quickly at this intersection…. Mmmmm , again concerning. Is it a better approach, not to have to cross around this intersection of 3 major roads? I would think so.

Great idea, as a regular walker I use the road alot. Perhaps lower the speed limit from Mountain Bay turn off to Goughs Bay to 80kmh then 50kmh to make it safe us.

This is a great initiative and will well utilised. It will provide a safe walking track instead of walking on the road.
