Concept designs for beautification works on two of Mansfield's roundabouts are under considerations:

  • Location 1: Chenery Street - High Street Roundabout
  • Location 2: Malcolm Street - Highett Street Roundabout

Many members of our community enjoy and take pride in the beautiful gardens and police monument of Mansfield's central roundabout, and these two roundabouts also have the potential to enhance our township's character at their high-profile locations.

Both designs were produced by Council's Parks & Gardens crew with consideration for the practicalities of the sites. The designs' low profile helps to preserve drivers' view of oncoming traffic. They require very little maintenance, reducing the overall cost and also the road safety risk for Council's gardeners.

Unlike Mansfield's central roundabout, these roundabouts have no irrigation to support a lawn or thirsty plant varieties. However both designs strive for an attractive natural character.

The proposed design and a concept illustration for each roundabout is available below. Higher-resolution images can be found to the right of this page.

About the designs

Location 1: Chenery Street - High Street Roundabout

This design features a representation of five leaves. The flat sculptures consist of timber stems with rust-finish "Form Boss" edging, topped with a loose granite surface in alternating colours. The leaves are arranged around a tiered central rock bed.

Location 2: Malcolm Street - Highett Street Roundabout

This design has several features, focused on a rock 'river bed' flowing from one side to the other. Three garden beds give colour with overflowing creeping plants and rust-finish "Form Boss" edging. Three larger boulders accentuate the garden beds.

Community consultation closed on the 15th of February 2023and all the feedback provided, has been reviewed.

Council has received community feedback on the concept designs for beautification works planned for the roundabouts at Chenery Street/High Street and Malcolm Street/Highett Street, Mansfield.

The feedback was provided via Council’s online survey for public consultation, which ran from January 31 to February 15. The feedback received from the community was positive with regards to the designs' simplicity, artistic designs and low maintenance required.

However, the community also voice their opinion on enhancing the appearance of the Chenery Street/High Street roundabout through the inclusion of some greenery. Council has taken the feedback onboard and has made amendments to the designs. A succulent plant type will be placed in three different locations within the roundabout to create a more appealing, inviting and aesthetic appearance whilst also ensuring it requires low maintenance.

We now plan to proceed with the beautification works including revisions. Works are expected to begin in the second half of 2023.
