Council is proposing a state of the art playground that balances fun with education and community pride as it celebrates Mansfield Shire’s unique culture and place in history.

This project aims to create a vibrant, inclusive space where everyone can play together, regardless of age or physical ability by combining accessible equipment with imaginative design themes.

The multi-project transformation of the Mansfield Station Precinct is made possible by a $14.1 million grant from the Australian Government’s Regional Precincts and Partnerships Program.

The proposed playground will be a place for adventure, imagination and connection. Whether children are climbing to new heights, exploring nature or spinning with friends, they will be enjoying a space designed to allow kids of all ages and abilities to play side-by-side.

The playground has been been developed in response to community feedback highlighting the need for a welcoming, safe and accessible play space that supports and encourages the participation of everyone, including children with disabilities, parents, carers and the broader community.

We are now seeking your feedback on the concept plan to ensure the final design meets the needs of our community.

    A Unique Design for Mansfield

The design draws inspiration from Mansfield’s unique history and natural environment, creating a playground that tells the story, past and present, of the best little shire in Australia.

    • Ancient History: Climb the sprawling net structure and adventure into a bygone age with paintings of the Carboniferous period or explore the tracks from the region's ancient past.
    • Indigenous Connection: The playground links with the Gadhaba Gathering Place, featuring sandblasted footprints, sculptures from dreamtime stories (like Bunjil the Wedge-Tailed Eagle) and native flora themes.
    • Railway Heritage: Celebrate the site’s history as a station, kids can play on the 'Trainhead' structure.

    Features to Explore

The playground will have equipment for everyone.

    • Adventure Play: Challenge yourself on the log climbing area, horizontal climbing logs and the large net climbing structure.
    • Sensory & Creative Play: Dig in the sand play area, splash at the water play station, or make music with the flower sensory play and chime panel.
    • Active Fun: Enjoy the swings (with toddler, standard and basket seats), rotating spinners, trampoline and seesaw.
    • Relaxation: New shelters with picnic tables, benches and a terraced lawn amphitheatre.

    Accessible Design Features

We have designed this space to ensure no one misses out on the fun. The playground features inclusive equipment that allows children with different mobility needs to play together.

    • Liberty Swing: Providing a safe swing experience for wheelchair users.
    • Inclusive Equipment: Wheelchair-accessible carousel, trampoline and seesaw, plus a custom accessible train play unit.
    • Sensory Play Opportunities: That provide children the chance to learn and explore through their senses.
    • Easy Access: Wide concrete paths, rubber soft-fall surfaces for easy movement and DDA compliant picnic tables and seating.
