Our community local laws cover things like keeping pets, parking on Council-managed roads, managing events, and using public spaces. They’re here to protect our shared environment, ensure community safety, and support how we live and work together.

Council is conducting a full review of our local laws. This is a chance to make sure the rules are clear, practical and reflect our community's needs.

The review is supported by the Victorian Government through the Business Acceleration Fund.

    Stage one of the Community Local Laws Review is now complete. Thank you to everyone who contributed feedback during the first stage of consultation for Mansfield Shire Council’s Community Local Laws Review.

    Here’s what we heard loud and clear:

    • Simplifying permit processes.
    • Clearer rules for outdoor dining, signs, nature strips, and displays with safety in mind.
    • Stronger action on unsightly properties, abandoned buildings, and nuisance animals.
    • Don’t duplicate laws with those already covered by State or Federal law.
    • Tidy up bin placement, improve how and where waste bins are stored.

    What’s next?

    A draft of the updated Community Local Laws will be open for public feedback in August 2025. This will be your chance to see what’s proposed and help shape the final version.

    The upcoming Town Booster Program in Mansfield is an opportunity to boost our town's shopping precinct and revitalise our neighbourhoods.

    Local Laws are one factor that influences what we can do in our public spaces, so this is the perfect chance to look at ways to cut red tape and breathe new life into the town. Come along and help us work through it!
